Are aligners right for you?

Dr. Arenas looks at your teeth, gums and bite first. These are the usual reasons people ask about clear aligners.

Not sure? A consultation includes a 3D scan, so you see the plan before you decide.

  • Crowded or overlapping teethTeeth that twist or sit in front of each other.
  • Gaps between teethSmall to medium spaces you would like closed.
  • Teeth that moved after bracesOften from a retainer that stopped getting worn.
  • A bite that is a little offMild cases. More complex bites may need braces.
  • You want to skip metal bracketsThe trays are clear and come out for meals.

Four steps from scan to retainer

Most treatments take 6 to 18 months. You switch to a new tray every one to two weeks, and Dr. Arenas checks your progress every 6 to 8 weeks. Times are general ranges. Yours depend on how far your teeth need to move.

1. Consultation and scan1 visit, about an hour

An exam, photos and a 3D scan of your teeth. You see a preview of where they move, and the cost, in writing.

2. Your first trays1 visit, 30–45 minutes

We check how the first set fits. Some teeth need small tooth-colored bumps (attachments) so the trays can grip them. We add those now.

3. Wear and switch6–18 months

Wear each tray about 22 hours a day and switch to the next one every one to two weeks. Check-ins are short.

4. RetainersAfter your last tray

Teeth can drift back when nothing holds them. You get retainers, clear trays or a thin wire behind your teeth, and Dr. Arenas explains when to wear them.

Living with aligners

Wear time

About 22 hours a day. Take them out to eat or drink anything but water, then brush before they go back in.

Cleaning the trays

Rinse them and brush gently with a soft toothbrush and cool water. Hot water can warp them.

When teeth feel sore

Pressure for a day or two with each new set is common. Soft foods help, and it eases as your teeth settle.

A lost or cracked tray

Call us before you skip ahead. Often you can wear your last set while a new one is made.

What aligners cost, in writing

After your scan you get a written estimate. Here is what one looks like, with example prices for a full treatment.

What changes the price
  • How far your teeth need to move
  • How many trays and months it takes
  • Upper teeth only, or upper and lower
  • The retainers you choose
Insurance

Some PPO plans with orthodontic benefits pay a set lifetime amount toward aligners or braces. We check your plan and tell you what is likely to be covered before you start.

Paying over time

Financing spreads the cost into monthly payments through a third-party lender. We show you the monthly amount before you agree to anything.

Questions about clear aligners

The ones we hear most. Ask us anything else at your consultation.

How much do clear aligners cost in Miami?

The example estimate above shows a typical range for a full treatment. The real price depends on how far your teeth need to move and how many trays that takes, so we give it to you in writing after your scan.

Are clear aligners better than braces?

Neither one is better for everyone. Aligners come out and are hard to see. Braces stay on and can handle more complex tooth movements. Your dentist tells you which suits your teeth.

How many hours a day do I wear them?

About 22. You take them out to eat, to drink anything but water, and to brush. Wearing them less slows treatment down, so most patients set phone reminders at first.

Do clear aligners hurt?

Most patients feel pressure or mild soreness for a day or two when they start a new set. It usually eases as teeth settle. Soft foods and over-the-counter pain relief help.

Will I need a retainer afterward?

Yes. Teeth can drift back toward where they were. Retainers hold them in place, and Dr. Arenas tells you how often to wear them.

Does insurance cover clear aligners?

Some plans with orthodontic benefits pay a set lifetime amount toward aligners or braces. We check your benefits and tell you what is likely to be covered before you start.
