Are veneers right for you?

Dr. Arenas first checks that your teeth and gums are healthy. These are the usual reasons people ask about veneers.

Not sure? Whitening or aligners can be a smaller step. We go through all your options at the consultation.

  • Chipped or worn front teethA veneer rebuilds the edge.
  • Stains whitening can’t liftSome stains sit inside the tooth, deeper than whitening reaches.
  • Gaps or uneven teethSmall spaces, or teeth of different lengths.
  • A tooth shape you would changeTeeth that look short, pointed or small to you.
  • Healthy teeth and gumsDecay and gum problems are treated first. If you grind your teeth at night, we talk about a night guard.

Four steps over 2 to 4 weeks

Porcelain veneers are made in a lab, which is why there is a gap between visits. Composite veneers can often be done in one visit. Times are general ranges.

1. Consultation and mock-up1 visit, about an hour

Photos, a scan and a talk about the look you want. Then you see a preview of the new shape before any tooth is changed.

2. Preparing the teeth1 visit, 1–2 hours

With numbing, Dr. Arenas removes a thin layer of enamel from the front of each tooth, then scans them for the lab. You leave with temporary veneers.

3. Lab time1–2 weeks

A dental lab makes your veneers to the shade and shape you chose. You wear the temporary ones meanwhile.

4. Fitting and bonding1 visit, 1–2 hours

You check the look with the veneers in place. Then we bond them to your teeth with dental cement and check your bite.

Porcelain or composite?

Both cover the front of a tooth. They differ in how they are made, how long they tend to last and what they cost.

After your veneers

The first days

Teeth can feel sensitive to hot and cold. It usually fades within a couple of weeks.

Every day

Brush twice and floss like natural teeth. A non-abrasive toothpaste is easier on the surface.

What to avoid

Biting ice, pens or fingernails, or opening packages with your teeth. These can chip a veneer.

Night guard

If you grind your teeth, a night guard protects the veneers while you sleep.

What veneers cost, in writing

After your consultation you get a written estimate. Here is what one looks like, with example prices for six porcelain veneers.

What changes the price
  • Porcelain or composite
  • How many teeth
  • Whether teeth need other work first
  • The shade and shape you choose
Insurance

Veneers are cosmetic, so most dental plans do not pay for them. If a tooth also needs a crown or a repair, part of that may be covered. We tell you before you start.

Paying over time

Financing spreads the cost into monthly payments through a third-party lender. We show you the monthly amount before you agree to anything.

Questions about veneers

The ones we hear most. Ask us anything else at your consultation.

How much do veneers cost in Miami?

The example estimate above shows a range for six porcelain veneers. The real price depends on the material, how many teeth you want, and what they need first, so we give it to you in writing after your consultation.

Porcelain or composite veneers: which is better?

Porcelain looks natural, resists stains well and lasts longer, but costs more and takes a lab. Composite costs less, often takes one visit and is easier to repair, but can stain and wear sooner. See the comparison above.

Do veneers damage your teeth?

Porcelain veneers need a thin layer of enamel removed. Enamel does not grow back, so the decision is worth taking slowly. That is why you see the mock-up first. Composite veneers often need little or none removed.

How long do veneers last?

Most porcelain veneers last 10 to 15 years with good care, and composite often 5 to 7. Grinding your teeth or biting hard objects can shorten that.

Will my veneers look fake?

Dr. Arenas matches shade, shape and shine to your other teeth, and you check the mock-up before the lab makes anything. If something looks off, tell us and we adjust.

Does insurance cover veneers?

Usually not, because veneers are cosmetic. If a tooth also needs a crown or repair for health reasons, part of that may be covered. We tell you before you start.
