Is an implant right for you?
Dr. Okafor first checks your gums, jawbone and general health. These are the usual reasons people ask about implants.
Not sure? Come in for a consultation. You don’t have to decide that day.
- A tooth is missingOne tooth, or several in a row.
- A tooth can’t be savedA filling, crown or root canal won’t hold it.
- Your denture or bridge movesIt slips, rubs or clicks when you eat.
- You want something fixed in placeSomething you brush and floss like a natural tooth.
- Your jawbone can hold itOr it can be built up first with a bone graft.
Four steps over 3 to 6 months
Most of that time is healing: the bone grows around the implant and holds it (dentists call this osseointegration). Times are general ranges. Yours depend on your bone and your health.
1. Consultation1 visit, about an hour
An exam, a 3D scan of your jaw, and your plan: each step and its price, in writing.
2. Implant placement1–2 hours
With local anesthesia, Dr. Okafor places a small titanium post where the root was. Most patients are back to normal routines within a day or two.
3. Healing3–6 months
The bone grows around the post. If the gap shows when you smile, you can wear a temporary tooth meanwhile.
4. Your new crown2–3 visits
A connector (the abutment) goes on the post, then a crown made to match your teeth. You chew on it like any other tooth.

After your implant
The first days
Soft foods, a cold compress and the rinse we give you. Soreness usually fades within a few days.
While it heals
Chew on the other side, skip smoking, and come to your check-ins so we can see the bone doing its job.
Every day
Brush and floss around it like a natural tooth. A water flosser helps under the crown.
Every six months
Cleanings, plus a check of the gum around the implant, where problems usually start.
What an implant costs, in writing
After your consultation you get a written estimate. Here is what one looks like, with example prices for a single tooth.
What changes the price
- How many teeth, and where they are
- Whether a tooth has to come out first
- Whether the bone needs a graft
- The crown material
Insurance
Many PPO plans pay part of the crown, and some part of the implant, up to the plan’s yearly maximum. We check your benefits and tell you what is likely to be covered before you decide.
Paying over time
Financing spreads the cost into monthly payments through a third-party lender. Because the steps are months apart, they can fall in two plan years, which can mean two yearly maximums.

Questions about dental implants
The ones we hear most. Ask us anything else at your consultation.
How much do dental implants cost in Miami?
For one tooth, the implant, the connector and the crown together are shown in the example estimate above. The real price depends on the tooth, the bone and the crown material, so we give it to you in writing after your consultation.
Does getting an implant hurt?
The area is numbed, so most patients feel pressure rather than pain during placement. Afterwards, expect some soreness and swelling for a few days, usually eased with over-the-counter pain relief.
How long do dental implants last?
With good brushing, flossing and regular checkups, most implants last many years. The crown on top wears like any crown and may need replacing after 10 to 15 years.
Does insurance cover dental implants?
It depends on your plan. Many PPO plans pay part of the crown and some part of the implant, up to a yearly maximum. We check your benefits and tell you what is likely to be covered before you decide.
Implant or bridge: which is better?
A bridge is faster and rests on the teeth next to the gap. An implant stands on its own and leaves those teeth alone, but takes months to heal. Your dentist explains both for your mouth.
Can I get an implant if I smoke or have diabetes?
Often, yes, but both can slow healing and raise the chance of problems. Your dentist looks at your overall picture first and may suggest stopping smoking or steadying your blood sugar before placement.
