What is in the price
An implant is a small titanium post that goes into your jawbone where a tooth root used to be. A connector and a crown go on top. Most quotes list these as separate lines, so you can see what you are paying for.
Example prices
| Part | What it is | Example price |
|---|---|---|
| Consultation and 3D scan | An exam and a scan of your jaw, so the plan fits your bone | $100–$350 |
| Implant post | The titanium post, placed under local anesthesia | $1,500–$2,500 |
| Abutment | The connector between the post and the crown | $300–$600 |
| Crown | The visible tooth, made to match yours | $1,000–$2,000 |
| Example total | One tooth, start to finish | $2,900–$5,450 |
The post is the part that spends months inside your jaw, so it is the largest single line. The crown is next. It is made in a dental lab, and the material you pick (porcelain, zirconia or porcelain over metal) changes its price.
What makes it go up or down
Two patients can get very different quotes for “one implant.” These are the usual reasons.
Your bone
The post needs enough bone to hold it. If the bone has thinned, which can happen after a tooth has been missing for a while, the dentist may add a bone graft first. That means rebuilding the area with bone material and giving it time to heal. For this fictional practice, a graft isan example $300–$1,200 more.
The tooth itself
A front tooth is more visible, so the crown is shaped and color-matched with more care. A back molar takes more of the chewing force and sometimes needs a wider post. If the old tooth still has to come out, that is one more visit and one more line on the estimate.
How many teeth
Replacing several teeth in a row does not always mean several implants. Two implants can sometimes hold a three-tooth bridge. Your dentist can tell you from the scan.
Your health and habits
Smoking and uncontrolled diabetes can slow healing and raise the chance of problems. Your dentist may suggest steps before placement. These do not change the price of the implant, but they can add visits.
Implant, bridge or denture
If you are pricing an implant, you are probably also pricing the alternatives. The implant costs the most at the start and takes the longest. It also leaves the teeth next to the gap alone.
Example prices
| Option | Example price | Time to finish | Good to know |
|---|---|---|---|
| Implant and crown | $2,900–$5,450 | 3–6 months, mostly healing | Stands on its own. Brush and floss it like a natural tooth. |
| Three-unit bridge | $2,400–$5,000 | 2–3 visits over a few weeks | Rests on the two teeth beside the gap, which are shaped to hold it. |
| Partial denture | $800–$2,000 | 3–4 visits over a few weeks | Removable. Lowest price, and it may need adjusting over the years. |
A bridge is quicker and often costs less up front. An implant has no extra work on neighboring teeth and, with good care, most implants last many years. The crown on top wears like any crown and may need replacing after 10 to 15 years. Read more on our dental implants page or ask aboutcrowns and bridges.
Does insurance help?
Often a little. Many PPO dental plans pay part of the crown, and some pay part of the implant, up to the plan’s yearly maximum. That maximum is often under two thousand dollars, so one tooth can use up most of a year’s benefit. Plans differ a lot, and some exclude implants entirely.
Because an implant takes months, the steps can land in two plan years. Each year has its own maximum, so spacing the visits can help. We check your benefits before you decide and tell you what is likely to be covered. Ourinsurance and financing page has an example list of plans we work with and a quick checker. Confirm any plan with the practice.
Paying over time
You have a few ways to spread the cost:
- Financing. A third-party lender turns the total into monthly payments. Approval and terms depend on the lender.
- Pay by stage. The scan, the post and the crown happen months apart, so the bill is usually split the same way.
- Health savings or flexible spending accounts. If you have one through work, dental treatment is usually an eligible expense.
Ask for the payment terms in writing, the same way you ask for the treatment plan.
How to compare quotes
A low number on its own does not tell you much. When you collect quotes, check these things:
- Is the crown included? Some quotes show only the post.
- Is the connector (abutment) included? It is a separate part.
- Is the scan included? A 3D scan helps the dentist plan where the post goes.
- What happens if you need a graft? Ask for the price now, so it is not a surprise later.
- Who does the work, and where? Ask who places the implant and who makes the crown.
- What follow-up is included? Check-ins during healing are part of the process.
Put the quotes side by side with the same lines in each column. If two quotes cover different things, they are not really comparable yet.
What a consultation is like
At Brisa, the first visit takes about an hour. Dr. Okafor looks at your teeth and gums, takes a 3D scan, and shows it to you on screen. He explains which option fits your mouth and why. You leave with the steps, the timing and an estimate in writing. Nothing is scheduled until you say yes.
Most patients have questions about numbing and recovery. The area is numbed for placement, and most patients feel pressure rather than pain. Soreness for a few days afterward is common and usually eases with over-the-counter pain relief. If you want the full list of questions we hear, see our FAQ.
